The Dallas Cowboys have their franchise quarterback in Dak Prescott. However, they still seek to replace Andy Dalton after he decided to depart in NFL free agency to sign with the Chicago Bears. Now, the 2021 NFL Draft appears to be the next best option for the Cowboys. Could this include former Texas Longhorns quarterback Sam Ellinger?
The Cowboys are currently doing their due diligence on plenty of options at the quarterback position ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. Among them was Ehlingher as Dallas held a pre-draft meeting with him recently.
During an interview with 105.3 The Fan, Sam Ehlingher expressed how the pre-draft meeting with the Cowboys went ‘really well.’
“Being in the Texas area, growing up in Texas, it was kind of a surreal moment for me being able to meet with coaches from the Cowboys,” he said, via The Dallas Morning News. “Obviously, I know they are a Super-Bowl-caliber team, and it was a really cool moment for me to be able to meet with them. It was awesome.”
The Cowboys are among a long list of teams that have expressed interest in Sam Ehlinger leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft. Some of the notable teams include the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Chicago Bears, as CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo reported.
“There’s been a good amount of teams that I’ve talked to multiple times,” he said. “I think I’ve talked to every single team, all 32 NFL teams. It’s so hard to tell, there’s so many meetings I’d have to go back and chart out every single team that I’ve met with. It’s just a crazy process.”
The Dallas Cowboys will have plenty of roster holes to address in the 2021 NFL Draft. It will be fascinating to see if the quarterback position behind Dak Prescott will be among them. If they do, using a later round selection on an option like Sam Ehlinger seems like a solid bet to take.
